we are leaving tomorrow afternoon and will be taking the oregon trail (no joke, seriously) to get to portland.
no internet between now and then, but hey, the pioneers didn’t have it so why should we. i wish i had had time to make a bonnet…oh well
adieu!
usps has one of those voice automated help lines instead of actual operators. below is my conversation with “IT”
it: for change of address, say change of address
me: change of address
it: if this is a family move, say family
me: family
it: if this is a temporary move, say temporary
me: HELP!
it: sure, here’s some help! a temporary change of address means…
at that point i was laughing so hard that i didn’t hear the rest. just to be sure though, i said help again and received the same reply. who would have thought that an automated voice could recognize a human in distress and seek to comfort said human with a soothing voice and lengthy explanation of basic terminology. priceless
we’re back and i have much to say. i do not have time at the moment, but i wanted to provide you with this article to better explain why we are moving to portland. over 75k people showed up to rally for my home boy obama. i am left speechless by the incredible happiness i feel with the knowledge that the city we’re about to move to shares such an important opinion as us.

alright, so the following video isn’t real (note: the onion), but it is probably not far from the truth!
ok, i’m convinced. robert pattinson makes a good edward cullen.
ahem. for those of you that have informed me of your opinion that graduate school “isn’t real work” i would like to offer you a small peek into the reality of the matter. i admit that i never took these comments to heart as the opinion holders have no basis for comparison and thus have no idea what they are talking about, but as i was packing up my books today i couldn’t ignore the irony of the sheer volume of materials i’ve collected over the past two years which, according to some, apparently are no more than pieces of paper that simply exist. there is no possible way that i actually, you know, had to READ any of them…or write numerous papers…or spend 3+ nights per week at 3 hours each night for 2 years discussing and debating and so on the contents of such. of course not. actually, to be perfectly honest, i learned nothing in school. no one does, you know. it’s all just a facade. we show up and use the wi fi connection to play world of warcraft on our lap tops. after 2 years of just showing up, we are approved by the state to administer mental health treatment to crazies.
*rolls eyes* of COURSE i worked in grad school. anyone that says it isn’t real work is a moron. the picture below represents only about 1/3 of the materials i had to purchase/research for this degree. i have about 300 pdf files on my pc of research articles that i chose to save digitally instead of killing trees.
notice:
my new wedding gift policy is as follows:
couples will not receive anything until they reach their 1 year anniversary. in “high risk” cases, a 3 year anniversary will be needed before any money leaves my pocket.
What were you cooking/baking ten years ago?
pasta. that’s about all i remember making. oh, and scrambled pancakes (this is where you don’t make round pancakes but just scramble the batter like you would eggs)
What were you cooking/baking one year ago?
i started my adventures in indian cooking about a year ago. besides that i was making lots of mexican including chimichangas, tacos, fajitas…last summer we also started drinking smoothies a bit. my love affair also began with yogurt.
Five snacks you enjoy:
string cheese, le petit ecolier, plain yogurt with cocoa powder/sugar, melba toast, and orange sherbet
Five recipes you know by heart:
potato leek soup, avocado tacos, greek pizza, home made ravioli, and hummus
Five culinary luxuries you would indulge in if you were a millionaire:
kitchenaid artisan mixer in either pistachio green or reef blue, calphalon knives, calphalon pans, calphalon dutch oven, and some professional cooking lessons
Five foods you love to cook/bake:
indian food of all sorts, chocolate deserts, tea & cakes, smoothies, and rich soups (heavy cream a must)
Five things you cannot/will not eat:
anything with the following ingredients (unless their amounts are obscenely minuscule so as not to be detected*): cloves, cinnamon, mushrooms, meat*, anise
*the one exception is that i will not make anything under any circumstances with meat no matter how small of an amount.
Five favorite culinary toys:
i don’t have many yet, but my hard anodized pans make me happy. also, my tea making accoutrement, ginsu knives, yogurt maker, and air popcorn maker
